COLD ASPHALT: A COLORADO SOLUTION

CASI chose to partner with EZ Street asphalt in 2008. EZ Street asphalt is an international product that is used for various applications including pothole patching, utility cuts, trench repairs and even paving in several countries.

In Colorado, they don’t say “cold patch asphalt” anymore. They say, “EZ Street”.

CASI is proud to produce EZ Street asphalt, a polymer-modified cold mix, fine-tuned to work in Colorado’s melodramatic climate.

And, it’s minimally invasive. Just sweep, fill, and compact. EZ Street repairs are instantly ready for traffic, so lanes can be re-opened as soon as the repair’s filled.

EZ Street asphalt is designed for:
• Potholes
• Utility cuts
• Small overlays
• Catch basins
• Manhole surrounds
• Edge repairs
• And more

But, it’s not just how it works, there’s something remarkable about how EZ Street stockpiles stay fresh.

When left in bulk bins, EZ Street asphalt forms a coating that protects the pile, and easily breaks up for use, without any further treatment.

That allows Colorado public works and construction yards to keep EZ Street mix on hand for quick access during emergency calls.

Bulk storage. Guaranteed one-time repairs. Small crews. No need to heat. It all adds up to saving money, while making Colorado roads safer.

CASI produces EZ Street asphalt year-round. It’s available in:
• Loose bulk by the ton
• One-ton bulk sacks
• 50 lb bags

Once you try EZ Street asphalt, everything else is just cold patch.

COLD ASPHALT: A COLORADO SOLUTION.

CASI is a producer of EZ Street® asphalt, the only permanent cold asphalt. EZ Street® is a polymer-modified asphalt specially formulated to work in all weather conditions and temperatures. It can also be used in water, such as in water-filled potholes. With EZ Street® cold mix asphalt , repairs can immediately be re-opened to traffic, eliminating long delays and traffic congestion.

It’s designed for use on potholes, utility cuts, small overlays, catch basins, manhole adjustments, and edge repairs in asphalt and pavement applications. EZ Street® is formulated to improve cohesion, adhesion, and water resistance. And it’s guaranteed permanent.

In Colorado’s wet, cold, and freeze-thaw cycle, EZ Street® cold asphalt is the material of choice. Because EZ Street® has tack coat built in and is cold, crews can be rapid first responders to any pothole or utility main break repair—even if it’s snowing. EZ Street® remains workable even when it’s stockpiled. Colorado public works and construction yards can access EZ Street® asphalt for immediate repairs: day or night, winter or summer. Because the cold asphalt can be installed and used immediately, repairs can be addressed with minimal traffic impacts in any season. CASI produces EZ Street® year-round. It’s available in loose bulk by the ton, one-ton bulk sacks, and  50 pound bags.

Denver in December

Some people claim that Denver enjoys as much sunshine in a year as Southern California. It's not true. Denver averages 3,107 hours of sunlight per year— sixth on the list of sunniest cities, so still pretty darn sunny. Snow doesn’t last too long, but it both creates, and represents, a cycle perfect for growing potholes and cracks in underground piping. Hot. Cold. Hot. Cold. Repeat that for a few months and you’re gonna need a road crew. Anything that makes life easier for road crews makes life better for Coloradans. Since 2008, CASI has helped do just that, by partnering with the EZ Street company to produce a high performance cold mix capable of enduring our bi-polar temperatures, while helping road crews save time and money on everything from utility cuts to trench repairs, and of course, overly hydrated potholes. EZ Street asphalt can be poured directly into a pothole full of water, it’s guaranteed permanent, and as workable as hot mix even on our coldest days. Rain or shine, sleet or snow: all it takes is a one-man crew and a stock of EZ Street asphalt to show Denver’s potholes who’s boss.

Pothole repair in Colorado

Buena Vista, Colorado. The Winters are frigid. Summers: blazing. If you want to see a pothole in its natural habitat, this is the place to be. It’s also home to expert pothole hunters. Meet the Buena Vista Public Works Department. Their weapon of choice: EZ Street asphalt. Why? Because it works. Consider the following. A late Spring snowstorm. The first half of the day is too cold for hot mix. Then it warms up. The snow melts—potholes once shrouded in whiteness are now glassy pools. Yet, these guys still put in a full day of showing potholes who’s boss. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold, hot, raining, snowing—EZ Street asphalt’s always workable and guaranteed to stay in the hole, even during Colorado’s topsy-turvy Springs.

Denver. It’s Feburary. Hot mix isn’t an option.

Icy frost glazes the salt crusted streets. Opaque clouds of air huff from their mouths as the two-man crew hop out of their truck. They grab their tools and make way for an ice rimmed pothole filled with wintery grey water. It’s even too cold for it to snow. But, the men are nimble and quick. They don’t seem to mind the cold one bit. Neither does their cold patch—it rolls off their shovels and right into the frigid puddle. A few times over with a vibratory compactor and it’s back in the truck and off to the next one. Wanna know their secret? You gotta stay moving. Of course, first you’ve gotta get moving, and that’s not gonna happen with hot mix. EZ Street cold mix lets them keep filling potholes even when the weather says, “no”.

Shopping Center Pothole Repair

For the past six months, residents in Arvada, Colorado have been reporting siting's of a large triangular shaped object possessing advanced technology, parked at the Maple Wood Village Center shopping center. And, it’s not a UFO. In fact, the shopping center owner knew exactly what it was: EZ Street asphalt. It’s tough for business property owners to maintain their parking lots—big trucks, hefty crews, most, if not all the lot closed. It’s not good for business. Neither are potholes. But, what if he didn’t need the crew, or the machinery, and as soon as a repair was finished it was instantly ready for customer traffic? If all that were true, then, maybe an unskilled property owner could do the job just as well as a professional. Believe it or not, it’s all true, and tried. In this case, the owner secured a 1-ton bulk bag of EZ Street asphalt and rented a vibratory compactor. Six months later he was so impressed with how his work had held out, he sent us these pictures. Asphalt repair with EZ Street cold patch is as simple as sweeping out the debris, filling the hole, and tamping it down—you can even use your car tire if you don’t have a tamp or compactor. And, as far as that mysterious triangle goes—well, EZ Street asphalt’s not just for potholes. It works on walking paths, in concrete repairs, and can even be used to tidy up a crumbly parking lot island.

Lone Tree Utility Cut

Utility cuts and traffic jams—they go together like windchill and chapped lips. While utility cuts are unavoidable, their effects can be mitigated—but you have to work smarter, not harder. T. Lowell Construction knows the trick. They use EZ Street asphalt. It’s a cold patch, so it can stay on site and ready to go. It’s as simple as filling and compacting—then all that stop turns to go immediately—EZ Street asphalt repairs are instantly ready for traffic. But, faster repairs aren’t the only way EZ Street cold patch saves money. Perfect estimates are legendary—but, usually it’s better to have a little too much than not enough, even if it means some waste. Not with EZ Street cold mix. EZ Street asphalt stores in a stockpile for up to 12 months. So, unlike hot mix, whatever’s left over after the job can be carried over to the next. Smaller crews. No waste. Faster repairs. T. Lowell Construction loves it because it saves them money, their community loves it because it saves them time.

What the heck is that? It’s the Python 500 Pothole Patcher

The future’s been a bit disappointing. No flying cars, and we’re decades past 2001, yet nowhere near Arthur C. Clarks predictions for space exploration. However, we do have the Python 500 pothole patcher—and EZ Street asphalt. Aside from the mechanical marvel and ease of use, one of the best things about the Python 500 is its operator gets to stay inside a comfy, climate-controlled cabin. So, potholes can be filled, comfortably, in freezing, or blazing conditions. Fortunately, there’s a product on the market that can keep up, even when hot mix can’t. It works in water and can be stockpiled for up to a year and still be workable enough to slip through the Python’s hopper. And, it’s permanent, so you don’t have to keep firing up the Python again and again to make the same repair. Obviously—we’re talk’n about EZ Street asphalt, the cold mix of the future. But you don’t need all the high-tech gadgetry, all you have to do is sweep, fill, compact—and your repair just might last longer than the need for roads.

Rocky Mountain National Park

The Rocky Mountains are sacred. They’re a constant reminder of our Earthy history, of the division between development and the wild. So, when the Rocket Mountain National Park Service realized it was time to pave a trail in Estes Park, they knew it had to be environmentally mentally friendly, and minimally invasive. We knew it had to be EZ Street asphalt. One of the problems was figuring out how to get the material up the trail without a fleet of loud, bulky machinery. The solution: 50 lb bags of EZ Street asphalt—hauled to the summit by hand. The lower portion’s not nearly as steep, and better suited for 500 lb and 1 ton EZ Street bulk sacks. They were able to unload it by the shovel full to complete the trail, making the summit accessible for a wider scope of admirers.
